Saturday night our housing cooperative honoured John Boyd with a party for his 90th birthday. After stories, praise and thanks from family and friends, John stood on a case of beer and gave a lifetime performance combining keen observations on social changes, personal memories, and an impromptu Mandolin concert.
Through his writings in the community newsletter and by his tireless example, he reminds us of the importance of each to the other.
With the birth of two great-grandchildren in recent years, four generations of his family live in our community. Nice decades of John’s life were visible in the carefully assembled photo panels.
Writer, painter, elected representative, musician, world traveller, great-grandfather, and community leader – it is a privilege to be in the same community as John Boyd.
