SOCWORK origin

Just for the record. SOCWORK started as a Social Planning class project at the Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1987. We made a decision to keep the list open on the BITNET network.

Its care and feeding migrated to the University of Maryland and is now at the University of Arkansas. The growth of the Internet has improved access and increased participation.

While language and location are not insignificant boundaries on that participation, its’ intent was inspired by open systems. An approach which, I believe, is consistent with the core values of Social Work.
