Those of you interested in tracking down contacts or resources within a geographic area can use the postal code in our existing data bases with less effort.
In preparing a report on GIS (geographic information systems), I came across a copy of a Canada Post document which illustrates the geographic coverage of the FSA (forward sortation area – the first three characters of the postal code).
For example, one can look at the map of Barrie and get all the FSA’s covering Barrie and on another map for the FSA covering the rural area around Barrie. This assists in tracking down those who live in one of the small rural post office served communities near a city or town.
The publication is in a box labelled GIS in the System’s Office. I would be pleased to demonstrate use to any interested person.
