The training sessions will take place on March 28/90.
Session 1 9:30-11:30
Session 2 12:00 – 2:00
Session 3 2:30 – 4:30
Our objective is to ensure that all users know how to use the newest
version of Work Perfect, modifiy their personal setup, select printers
and integrate word processing files with other programs, esp. mail.
You and I will do each session together and use the following format:
Introduction to the purposes and format of this training session – Simon
(approx. 15 min.)
Detailed explanation of the new features of Word Perfect 5.1 and its
implications for people with old network and word perfect habits,
implications for exchanging files created by older versions and saving
of files for use by outsiders with older versions (5.0 & 4.2) – Truong
(your outline will be given out as a guide)
(make sure that you demonstrate each point, including the complex ones
which we will not cover in the hands on)
Hands-on testing – Simon & Truong
Prepare a set of exercises which each person will have to perform in
order to convince us that they really did learn what we intended.
Questions on word perfect or anything system related – Simon & Trong
I will try to come up with an on-line evaluation.
In preparation for these sessions, please give as much notice as
possible to those people whose workstations will be used for training.
We need to get 6 training workstation and one for the instructor. The
portable in there can be moved out for the day to make up for one of the
training units. It might also be a good idea to turn on banner printing
on the laserwriter for one day so we can track down any printing
mistakes by trainees.
I will order additional cables, connectors and power bars to set up the
temporary training space.
At the end of the day we will officially install Word Perfect 5.1 onto
This event should be an experiment testing in-house training. If it
works, we will can make it a regular feature on changeover.
Wednesday, March 28 is training day for Word Perfect 5.1
Thursday, March 29 is conversion to Word Perfect 5.1
Truong and I have arranged three sessions for 6 staff at a time.
Session 1 – 9:30 am to 11:30 am
Session 2 – 12:00 am to 2:00 pm
Session 3 – 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Six workstations will be set up in the Board Room and connected to the
network. Peggy’s, Alison’s, Barb’s, Heather’s, Truong’s, and Cathy’s
workstations will be commandeered for this day. In theory, there should
still be enough computers for everyone; you will have to move around to
find the available one.
Small group, hands on training in this manner is generally both
effective and efficient. Obviously, the Clearinghouse can not afford to
provide each person with individualized training. Those already
familiar with Word Perfect 4.2 will easily grasp the changes in a two
hour training session. On your own, working only with the manual, it
would take at least 10 hours to get the same benefit.
